Five Good Things #12

Sunday 24 February 2019

Hello hello pals! Today I thought I would bring back my Five Good Things posts - I used to do these alllll the time and loved doing them, it's such a good way to reflect on the week gone by and look for all the positives. This week hasn't been a great mental health one, as I've been very very concerned about the amount I'm piling on myself and the future and very scared of failing everything so it's been a bit of a funny one! But here's five good things that have happened anyway so here goes...

01 // One of my best friends from home Lily came to visit me this weekend! She only stayed one night but we went over to Trafford (where I met mmmitchell and stupidly didn't get a photo with him but he did hug me) and we had brunch and wandered around and it was lovely.

02 // The weather has been so. darn. good recently. I know everyone has been harking on about it and it does worry me that it's ~so~ warm in February but I have to say the weather has an amazing effect on my mood - I genuinely feel so much happier with everything when it's sunny and warm.

03 // I'm actually enjoying one of my film classes for once?! We're doing neo-noir film focusing on Chinatown and honestly, wow it's such a good film - if you haven't seen it yet you definitely need to, it's such a good storyline and stick with it even though it's long! Considering I only got 55% in my last film essay because I dislike the unit so much I'm pretty happy! (Just to flex I also got 80%, 75% and 68% in my other units which is preeeetty sweet)

04 // My boyfriend lent me his graphics tablet and honestly, I've been having way too much fun with it! If you don't follow me on Twitter I've been posting passive aggressive cartoons about my dirty af housemates so you should definitely check them out, or I also post them on my new doodle Instagram account which Vicky made me set up :)

05 // I've started getting back into exercising - running whenver I can and cycling into uni twice a week! It's about the only thing I have been doing this week, I may have watched three seasons of Friends this week but I have done some exercise which is something at least.

And that brings me to the end of Five Good Things from this week! I think I'm gonna try my best to start doing these every week so watch this space friends.

What are five good things from your week?

On Losing My Place In The Online World

Tuesday 19 February 2019

Hello, pals. I promise one day my blog posts will get a) much more frequent and b) much more interesting but for now I've got a think piece once again having a moan about the online community, the way it's changed and how the hell I'm going to deal with it. (Spoiler: I have no idea how I'm dealing with it this time)

I'm not even sure really where to start, but recently I've just been feeling pretty crap, to be frank, about the blogging community and my place in it and my place in this online world. For those of you who don't know, I actually started this blog in 2013 as Hangin' With Mil, and I've been in this thing a long ol' time and yet often I find myself feeling like I only started yesterday. I've struggled with a love-hate relationship with my blog pretty much ever since it started, and the things that generally fuel that is lack of motivation, lack of ideas and lack of time, but I think it's lack of motivation and ideas that tends to get me down the most.

An Ode To The Farleigh Jean

Wednesday 6 February 2019

I LOVE talking about jeans honestly. They're my absolute staple piece in my wardrobe, my favourite thing to wear day in, day out paired with a cute jumper or bodysuit or nice top for a night out, basically the most amazing thing since sliced bread. And 2019 is such a wonderful time for the jean! There are so many types of jeans, so many different lengths, sizes, cuts, shapes, styles, materials, colours - and today we're gonna be talking about the mom jean.

I'm going to be honest here and say I honestly don't know the difference between a mom jean and a boyfriend jean - I have a pair from Old Navy that are described as boyfriend jeans but I can't really tell the difference between those and these...but hey, these are described as mom jeans so that's what we're going to go with I guess. (Also on a sidenote, my fellow Brit girls - how do we say mom? Like...m-o-m or do we say mum?)

Those of you who know me, or follow my socials (sidebar to your right, Instagram for life together, Twitter for life falling apart) will know that I've been searching for the perfect mom jean for a long time. High waisted (af), the perfect mix between straight and skinny and fits waist, bum and legs all in one go. And do you know what, pals? As soon as the ASOS Farleigh jean "walked" into my life (get it) I found it.

Let's just talk about these jeans for a second. They're honestly incredible. I'm a 28/32 in jeans and I do roll the ends up because I love the cropped look (why don't you just buy them shorter, you ask? It's all about the aesthetic, my friend) but they really do fit me perfectly. I always struggle to find jeans that are baggier but also flatter my butt and waist as well and these just hit the spot perfectly. I also do have a belt on just for the aesthetic, not because I actually need it to hold them up too, and these ones shown in the photos are also the perfect shade of blue.

I believe they also have them in black, washed black and extreme washed black (which I have) and various other shades of blue too, they come in the Curve range, the petite range, the tall range and a range of other sizes too (we stan a diverse jean) and get this - they're only £32. I know that does seem like quite a lot of money but I feel like jeans are one of those things that you have to be prepared to spend a little more on for that perfect fit - I have had countless pairs of Primark and charity shop jeans that just don't fit properly and as a result I don't ever wear them. But at the end of the day, £32 isn't actually that bank-breaking for a good quality denim. Plus, ASOS always have 10% student discount and occasionally 20% too which is definitely handy.

Basically, if you're looking for an amazing straight but still flattering mom jean, high waisted enough so it reaches your boobies and the most comfortable item ever (honestly, I can squat in these. says it all.) then you need these in your life. That's all I'm saying. They also go with so much - a cute cropped jumper, tight bodysuit, Air Force, Vans, teddy coat, anorak (!), bralette for a night out - literally everything, making them one of the most versatile pieces in my wardrobe.

What are your favourite mom jeans?
