Welcome to a new thing I wanted to do on the blog - a Love Island rip off, essentially, a compilation of "Unseen Bits" from my week. Bits you wouldn't get shown on Instagram, funny bits from the week I captured on my phone, bits I would never normally put online. Since my revelation detailed in my last post that I ~really~ don't spend enough time living my present, I figured this might be a good way to do that?? It kind of worked in my head...
I also kind of wanted to scrap my monthly roundup posts. I enjoy doing them but at the same time, there's always a lot to go over and the whole "setting monthly goals" isn't that good for me and I think I just want to try something a bit different. So here goes nothing. This week's format will be a little different - it'll normally run Monday to Sunday, but given that I was on a residential with my NCS team last week I obviously couldn't take photos as a lot of them would've had young people in and I can't share them anywhere for very clear reasons. So this week will run Saturday to Sunday instead, but it will go back to normal afterwards.
SATURDAY 27TH JULY
Saturday is Parkrun and cinnamon bun day in my house and that didn't change this week. My sister and father headed out for their 5k and I headed with them to buy the cinnamon buns, rolls for bacon and also some sunflowers that I'd been eyeing up in Tesco the week before. Unfortunately there was no gypsophila left to go with them but some carnations were okay instead. My grandparents nipped in to join in with the bacon roll shenanigans - I celebrated twenty on the 16th July, and they gifted me a Swiss cheese plant, as per my list, so came over for tea and to drop it off.
The rest of the day was holiday planning, photo-taking, editing, writing and as four o'clock rolled round, tea and cinnamon bun time.
SUNDAY 28TH JULY
Sunday was as a family day - a lie in and the smell of morning coffee always tells me it's a Sunday, and this one was also spent with some family close-by. We went for tea and a walk at Rushmere Country Park and then out for dinner at a gastro-pub nearby. Good grub and good company makes a good Sunday.
MONDAY 29TH JULY
Monday saw a return to work - the last week of my job on the NCS Wave 4 staff team! It was an intense two weeks already but in a way I'm super sad it's all over. Market Stall Day marks the beginning of social action week where the team get out into the community and raise some money for a charity and do some volunteering, and the day was culminated with a lovely drink in the sun at Spoons (with the staff, not the young people, thank you!)
TUESDAY 30TH JULY & WEDNESDAY 31ST JULY
Tuesday and Wednesday were spent volunteering at our charity with the NCS team - our charity was Vineyard Make Lunch based in our town where children who would normally be on free school meals are invited to eat lunch and play with toys and games together all for free during the summer holidays so that they won't go hungry. Tuesday was spent baking treats for the children and planning their games and activities, and Wednesday was the actual Make Lunch day so was spent playing with the children (hence the train set - blast from my past) and making and eating the food together. It's an incredibly inspiring charity and I felt very privileged to be even a tad involved in the work they do there. (I also managed to do my August bullet journal!)
FRIDAY 2ND AUGUST
I missed Thursday?! We spent Thursday doing some fun awareness raising, but Friday we did a sponsored walk to finish off social action week and the entire NCS programme, handed out little awards to the whole team and ended the programme with a bang on the staff night out to the worst club I've ever been to - but incredible company. Wouldn't have changed it for the world. What I would change however is heading out to the smoking area with a friend and falling down the rather slippery stairs in a drunken stupor and spraining my ankle...
SATURDAY 3RD AUGUST
What an exciting day! Hangover wore off around 9 and I made my way home from crashing at my friend's for a day in London. We got tickets to see the pianist Einaudi at the Barbican ages ago and we decided to make a day of it. Such a good day but walking around London definitely did not help the ankle situation.
SUNDAY 4TH AUGUST
The next Sunday brought the most welcome lie-in I think I've ever had. Recovering from three weeks' intense work, a night out and a day in London and a sprained ankle can't be cured in one night but a lie-in until 11.30 or so was damn welcome. The rest of the day was been spent packing to head to Manchester the next morning and writing up blogpost drafts and planning photos to take etc etc. Lots of fun.
What are your 'unseen bits' from this week?
Em xx
